Caring for the next generation: Beth’s story

Beth Jasper’s connection to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island spans generations. As a child, she spent time in the Solarium, a facility that would later evolve into the Foundation, providing care and support for countless Island families. Now, decades later, she has chosen to give back in a way that will ensure the next generation of children receives the same compassion and care she once did.

Growing up on Vancouver Island, Beth experienced firsthand the importance of accessible healthcare. “When I was young, I spent time at the Solarium, which was a place for children to recover and heal,” she recalls. “They just loved us little ones. I think you have to when you go into a career like that—you must love kids.” That experience stayed with her throughout her life, shaping her understanding of the challenges families face when a child requires medical support.

Beth has long been a supporter of Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, recognizing the vital role it plays in ensuring that families across the Island have access to the medical care and resources they need. From programs like Bear Essentials, which provides essential medical equipment and travel support, to homes away from home like Jeneece Place and Q̓ʷalayu House, the Foundation is there for families when they need it most. “Care, it’s care of all children. I would say just put it where it’s needed most, and I think that’s what you do,” Beth shares.

Her passion for philanthropy began early. “I was canvassing for the March of Dimes when I was 15 or 16—I’m a lifelong philanthropist.” That lifelong commitment to giving is what led her to leave a legacy gift in her will to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island. “I think it’s important to leave something, but some people think that leaving a legacy is reserved for only the wealthy. Even if somebody leaves $500 or something, it all amounts up.”

Legacy giving is one of the most meaningful ways donors can make a lasting impact. By including the Foundation in her estate plans, Beth joins a growing number of individuals who believe in creating a future where all Island children have access to healthcare and support, no matter where they live or what challenges they face. “So your gift does matter. No matter what it’s going to be, it will matter.”

Beth Jasper’s story is a testament to the power of giving. Her journey—from a child receiving care at the Solarium to a dedicated supporter ensuring future generations have the same opportunities—illustrates the heart of what Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island stands for: a commitment to the health and well-being of every Island child, today and always.
