VICTORIA, BC | Part of View Royal’s Hospital Way has officially been renamed Jeneece Place in honour of Jeneece Edroff and the home-away-from-home she helped build for families traveling to Victoria General Hospital (VGH) for medical care.

In consultation with Island Health, View Royal’s town council passed a motion earlier this year to rename a section of Hospital Way, the thoroughfare encircling much of VGH, in celebration of Jeneece Place’s fifth anniversary.

“Our council wanted to find a way to honour Jeneece and acknowledge the growing impact that Jeneece Place has made in our community these past five years,” says Mayor David Screech of View Royal. “Renaming the part of Hospital Way that Jeneece Place sits on is a celebration of this important milestone.”

Since opening its doors in 2012, Jeneece Place has provided a home away from home for more than 1,500 families needing to travel for medical care—of which more than 70% live outside the capital region.

“The success of Jeneece Place is a testament to how healthcare needs have shifted across Island communities and, even more importantly, to what’s possible when you’re brave enough to dream it,” says Bill Snell, board chair of Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island—the charity that owns and operates Jeneece Place.

“Jeneece’s vision and dedication continue to inspire the Foundation every day.”
