Ways to give
Leave a gift in your will
Leaving a bequest (a gift in a Will) to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island is one of the simplest ways to build a healthier future for Island kids. Your estate will also receive a tax receipt for the full value of your charitable gifts.
The most common types of bequests include:
- Specific bequest: This is a gift of a specific amount of cash, securities, or personal property such as real estate, bonds, or artwork.
- Residual bequest: A gift of all or a percentage of what remains in your estate once all specific gifts, debts, and taxes have been paid.
Sample wording:
To leave a specific dollar amount: “I give to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, 345 Wale Road, Victoria, BC V9B 6X2 (Charitable No. 89863 8291 RR0001) the sum of $_________ .”
To leave all or a specified percentage of the residue of your estate: “I give to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, 345 Wale Road, Victoria, BC V9B 6X2 (Charitable No. 89863 8291 RR0001) all (or _____%) of the residue of my estate.”
Your legal advisor will need the following information: Legal Name: Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island

Charitable Registration Number: 89863 8291 RR0001
We recommend you seek independent legal and financial advice when planning any legacy gift.
Make CHFVI a beneficiary of an RRSP, RRIF or TFSA
Registered funds are among the most heavily taxed assets in Canada. By naming Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island as a beneficiary of these funds, your estate can benefit from significant tax advantages — and your gift will support Island families for generations to come.
We recommend you seek independent legal and financial advice when executing any legacy gifts.
Leave a gift of life insurance
You may choose to name Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island as the owner or beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy. Depending on how your policy is structured, your estate or you personally may be eligible to receive a charitable tax receipt.
We recommend you speak with your advisor before making this type of gift.
Leave a gift of securities
Donating publicly listed securities is one of the most tax-effective ways to support the Foundation, either now or as part of your estate plan.. When you donate securities directly, capital gains tax is eliminated. Eligible securities include shares, mutual funds, bonds, stocks, and segregated fund units.

We recommend you seek independent legal and financial advice when executing any legacy gifts.
Other ways to leave a legacy gift
Create a charitable remainder trust
This allows you to set up a future gift today, receive an immediate tax receipt, and continue to receive income from the trust during your lifetime. Upon your passing, the remaining assets in the trust will be transferred to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island.
Leave a gift of property
We accept a variety of gifts-in-kind such as real estate, art, vehicles, and other items that support our fundraising efforts. Please contact us to discuss whether your intended gift is something we can accept.
Establish an endowment
An endowment gift creates long-term, sustainable funding for Island kids. The principal is permanently invested, while the investment income provides annual support.
You can start an endowment with a minimum gift of $50,000. Contributions can also be made by your family, friends, or through your estate. Please contact us to learn more about creating an endowed fund.
We recommend you seek independent legal and financial advice when executing any legacy gifts.
