Ways to give
Leave a gift in your will
Leaving a bequest (a gift in a Will) to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island is the simplest way to provide a healthy future for our children and youth. Your estate will receive a tax receipt for the full value of your charitable gifts.
The most common types of bequests include:
- Specific bequest: This is a gift of a specific amount of cash, securities, or piece of property, such as real estate, bonds, or works of art.
- Residual bequest: This is a gift of all or a percentage of what remains in your estate once all specific gifts, bills, and taxes are paid.
Sample of wording:
To leave a specific dollar amount: “I give to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, 345 Wale Road, Victoria, BC V9B 6X2 (Charitable No. 89863 8291 RR0001) the sum of $_________ .”
To leave all or a specified percentage of the residue of your estate: “I give to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, 345 Wale Road, Victoria, BC V9B 6X2 (Charitable No. 89863 8291 RR0001)all (or _____%) of the residue of my estate.”
To include a gift in your will, your legal advisor will need the following information:

Name CHFVI as a beneficiary of an RRSP, RRIF or TFSA
From an estate planning perspective, registered funds are one of the most heavily taxed assets in Canada. By naming Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island as a beneficiary of a registered asset, your estate will receive significant tax benefits.
We recommend you seek independent legal and financial advice when executing any legacy gifts.
Leave a gift of life insurance
We recommend speaking with your advisor if you are planning to name Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island as a beneficiary or owner of a life insurance policy. Depending on how you structure a new policy, you or your estate could receive beneficial tax receipts.
Leave a gift of securities
A gift of securities is one of the most cost-effective ways to support the Foundation, immediately or through a gift in your Will. When publicly listed securities are donated to the Foundation, the tax on the capital gains is eliminated. Any publicly listed securities, including shares, bonds, warrants, stocks, mutual funds, and segregated fund units qualify. For more information, please refer to our Gift of Securities page.
We recommend you seek independent legal and financial advice when executing any legacy gifts.
Other ways to leave a legacy gift
Create a charitable remainder trust
Setting up a charitable remainder trust, and naming Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island as the beneficiary, allows you to arrange your legacy gift now, receive an immediate tax receipt, and enjoy the interest income from the trust during your lifetime. Then, upon your death, what is left in this trust will be transferred to Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island.
Leave a gift of property
Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island accepts a variety of gifts of property including real estate, art, vehicles, jewelry, and various items that are used to support our fundraising events. We do have limitations on what we accept, so if you are considering donating a gift of property, please contact Amgad Zaky and we can discuss whether it’s something we could accept.
Establish an endowment
An endowment is a charitable investment fund where the capital, the initial gift, and any subsequent contributions, are permanently invested and the income generated from the capital provides a steady and dependable source of funding for the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island.
An endowment fund may be established with an initial gift of $50,000 or more and then be added to by you, your family, friends, or through your estate.
Please contact Amgad Zaky if you would like more information about creating an endowed fund.
We recommend you seek independent legal and financial advice when executing any legacy gifts.
