Meaningful holiday gift ideas
It’s mid-December, and the season of last-minute holiday shopping is upon us. If you’re still looking for the perfect gift for someone on your list, you’ve come to the right place.
When it comes to gift-giving, one of our supporters, Vesa Adler, has a great tip: think about what really matters to the person you’re giving to.
Vesa is an Executive Financial Consultant with IG Wealth Management and, for years now, he has made a charitable contribution in lieu of giving holiday gifts to his clients.
“We have clients tell us that they appreciate the gift but would rather see the money put to use in some other form,” explains Vesa.
“Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island has been the main recipient of these funds over the last number of years as children’s health needs resonate with everyone.”
This holiday season, Vesa is supporting our 365 Nights campaign on behalf of his clients, sponsoring two weeks of stays at our Homes Away From Home. It means a lot to him to be able to support something tangible, relatable, and close to home.
“Vancouver Island is a small community, and we need to look after each other when we can. We have friends who have to travel off the island for medical appointments for their children, and we know the stress it can put on families. Any small part we can play in alleviating that burden, we are happy to support.”
But you don’t have to run a business to make a gift on someone’s behalf – if there are children in your life, the holiday season is a great time to have a conversation with them about philanthropy. Vesa shares that he and his wife are instilling this mindset in their kids.
“We are very fortunate to be in a position to support various charities each year. As a family, we like to give back to the community. It is important to my wife and me, and now our children are becoming more involved. We hope that they will carry on with charitable giving, whether through volunteering or donating, as they become adults.”
